Back rank is randomly determined, but on the first turn, a player can exchange two pieces.
Transcendental Chess is a shuffle variant, such as Chess960, but balances out any inequalities not by limiting the starting positions after an initial randomization, but by allowing two home-rank pieces to be transposed.
The home-rank is shuffled for both sets of pieces, the only condition being that the Bishops must start on different color squares.
The moves of the pieces remains the same as Standard Chess, but on the first move only, a player can choose to transpose (swap position of) any two pieces on the home-rank.
